North Ogden
All About North Ogden

The first settlers in the North Ogden area were two groups of cattle ranchers from Ogden, the Campbells and the Riddles. Brigham Young warned them not to leave the fort in Ogden because it might lead to trouble with the Shoshone, but once things were resolved, they returned to the area with other families to settle permanently.

Sugar beets were a big industry in the area until fruit orchards became the main agricultural staple. The North Ogden Fruit Exchange became the first fruit cooperative of the region, and they used the “Dummy Line” (a spur off the Union Pacific Station in Ogden) to bring their fruit to the interstate market. The city was officially incorporated in 1934 in response to the increasing demand for water. Since World War II, North Ogden has increasingly become a suburb of Ogden as farmland was parceled out for homes.

The fruit North Ogden is best known for is their cherries! Civic and church leaders got together in 1932 to figure out how to improve the cherry market in the Western states. Their solution? An annual community celebration called Cherry Days where growers could show off the size, color, and flavor of their cherries, as well as the beauty of the North Ogden area. This is a tradition that has been going for nearly ninety years.
